A look at ASIFA-East Winter-Spring 2014
Happy New Year ASIFA-East members!! I hope your holidays were wonderful, and that the 2014 year brings you the best in happiness, health, and creativity! The team at ASIFA-East has been working hard to bring you lots of informational and networking events this winter and spring. Here’s a roundup of our 2014 slate.
ASIFA-East Animated Film Festival
We are currently accepting entries for our 2014 Animated Film Festival! Debuting in 1969, the festival is a unique showcase for the most groundbreaking independent and commercial animation being produced in the industry today. Awards will be given out across a variety of categories and craft from student, commercial, and independent entries to excellence in writing, design, and animation. All films are due February 3rd, 2014. Late entries must be received no later than February 7th, 2014. Jury screenings will be held in March of 2014, with an Awards Ceremony on May 18th, 2014. All current ASIFA-East members are eligible and strongly encouraged to participate in the juror screenings. For information on becoming a member, please visit https://asifaeast.com/about-us/.
ASIFA-East Figure Drawing
Figure Drawing classes resume on January 23. All classes are free to current ASIFA-East members. All others can attend for $10. Classes are held at The Productive, a coworking studio located at 40 West 38th Street on the 5th Floor. ASIFA-East members are also eligible for a 10% discount on membership to the animation friendly studio.
ASIFA-East Post Holiday Party
We’re happy to announce that our Post-Holiday Party for our members is back after a few years hiatus! Please join us on January 16th as we raise a glass to 2014! The party will be held at Pour George at 35 West 8th Street in downtown New York City from 7pm – 10pm. Light appetizers will be served, and happy hour specials will go on from 7pm – 9pm. Cash bar. Admission is free and open to current ASIFA-East members only. Have a friend who is not a member, or is your membership about to lapse? No better time to show your support than at our holiday party! Taxes for Freelancers with Steven Zelin, The Singing CPA
It’s tax time again! Please join ASIFA-East as we welcome Steven Zelin, The Singing CPA, to come speak with us on all things taxes. Steven’s done this workshop with us for a few years now, and it’s always a big hit. Bring all your tax questions – we know you have many – and come prepared to sing along! During this training session, you will hear Steven’s funny songs about taxes, gain insights into the latest changes in tax law, and get solid general tax advice for animators and other freelancers. This year’s workshop will be held on January 28th at 7pm at The School of Visual Arts. For all details, click here.
A Night of Polish Animation
Curated by Tristian Goik, this evening will present a collection of animated shorts from Poland. The special screening will be held on February 18th at 7pm at The School of Visual Arts. This event is members only.
Design ASIFA-East’s Membership Card!
What does ASIFA mean to you? Your design could be used for our next membership card! ASIFA-East is holding a members-exclusive contest to design our new membership card! We would love this to be an annual event – and for your designs to become collectibles! ASIFA-East is a volunteer run organization made up of animation enthusiasts who care deeply about the art of animation and the community we serve. We welcome your participation in helping us design the next membership card and hope you will add your personal touch to ASIFA-East. Send us your design by June 30th, 2014. Winner will be selected by the ASIFA-East board by August, 2014. For all details, click here.
