Steven ZelinBack by popular demand!!  On February 23, 2011 please bring all your tax and freelance related questions to our Business of Being An Artist event with Steven Zelin, The Singing CPA.  This was an extremely helpful (and fun!) event last year, so I hope you will all join us.  Here’s all the info:

Wed, Feb 23 at 7 PM
SVA room 502.
209 East 23rd Street
(Bet. 2nd & 3rd Ave)
NYC

We have also just added a business lawyer to our event, who will be on hand to answer all those questions dealing with legal issues.  Please bring all your questions that deal with issues that affect freelancers and artists, employer-employee relationships, definitions of work for hire vs ind contractor vs employee, how to start a business, trademark, and tax questions, etc.

Steven Zelin is the Singing CPA. He writes and performs funny songs about taxes and accounting, and he’s been a certified public accountant for over 10 years. He is also the President of the Lowe Bureau LLC, a bookkeeping company focusing on creative individuals and small businesses. Steven started his career at PricewaterhouseCoopers and currently is the principal of a CPA practice specializing in providing high quality tax and accounting services to individuals, small businesses and non-profit organizations. He has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, ABC Nightline, The New York Daily News and on many radio shows. He is a regular guest speaker at SVA and teaches Accounting at Long Island University. Mr. Zelin has an MBA in Finance and Marketing from Fordham University.

He will join us again this year to discuss (and sing about) the business side of being an artist with a focus on taxes as April 15th approaches. He will walk us through an interactive exercise in preparing a tax return, give advice on record keeping for artists, and provide resources on how you could get your tax returns prepared for free. Last year’s event was a big hit with lots of questions so come prepared to introduce yourself and recommend a topic or question that you’d like to see covered and be prepared to sing along!
