The Society of Illustrators has put together a wonderful exhibition featuring original illustrations from four iconic artists working in the field of animation. The work of Peter De Seve (Ice Age, Mulan, A Bug’s Life), Bill Plympton (I Married a Strange Person, Hair High, Idiots and Angels), William Joyce (Epic, Robots, Rise of the Guardians), and Carlos Nine (Anima Buenos Aires, numerous books and illustrations) will be on display through August 16th, 2014.

A lively panel discussion with Bill Plympton and Peter De Seve was held at the Academy theatre and moderated by J. J. Sedelmaier (Saturday TV Funhouse, Beevis & Butthead). Highlights of the evening included presentations of each of the artist’s reels, a humor-filled video tour through William Joyce’s Moonbot Studios, and live drawing by both Bill and Peter.   These incredible artists all have very different approaches to filmmaking and are amazing draftsmen.   It is easy to lose oneself in studying the amount of detail in their pencil drawings.
