Many thanks to all who showed up and helped celebrate our 40th Birthday last night, at the 40th Annual ASIFA-East Animation Festival. It was a packed house and tons of fun as always!! Congratulations to all our festival winners!! A full list of winners is now up on our web site. Stayed tuned for a full festival report by Richard Gorey.
Irra Verbitsky’s brilliant short film “The Portrait” will be shown at the Museum of Modern Art on June 3rd and 4th. It was not selected for ASIFA-EAST’s 2009 festival this past Sunday. What does this say about the taste and sensitivity of our members who voted? OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!!!!!!!
Hey Paul, I was particularly fond of Irra’s film, but considering the very sensitive and gentle Q&A won best in show, I don’t think the taste of voters can really be questioned.
We can always use more voting members of good taste and sensitivity. And, I think its a great victory for your film to be shown at MOMA, Irra. Congrats!
That said, no one jury gets it right every time and by every film and every filmmaker. We all need a thick skin. When we enter a film into a competitive arena, there’s a chance that the film may not be awarded.
I really loved the opening film. Chock-full of hallelujahful goodness! Great job, Richard!
