RichardProtovinRichard Protovin (1945 – 1991) was a prolific painter, filmmaker, and, in the late 1970s, he founded the NYU Animation program that is now an important component of the NYU TSOA Kanbar film department. The Protovin Animation Award is given annually in his honor.
On November 24 at 7 pm, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) will screen two Richard Protovin films, Straw Pib (1979) and Fan Film (1985), introduced by professor John Canemaker.
The screening is part of MoMA’s annual “To Save and Project” series in a program titled “Orphans at MoMA: Animation and Activism,” a collaboration between MoMA and Orphan Film Symposium, headed by NYU Cinema Studies’ professor Dan Streibel.
