Please join ASIFA-East, Women in Animation, and The Museum of the Moving Image as we present a screening of Rocks in My Pockets, with Director Signe Baumane in person.

Friday, December 5, 2014. 7:00 p.m.

Dir. Signe Baumane. 2014, 88 mins. DCP. With a beautifully textured combination of stop-motion animation with papier-mâché puppets and old-fashioned hand-drawn animation, Latvian-born filmmaker Signe Baumane tells a deeply personal and fantastical tale based on the women in her family and their battles with madness.

We will also be collaborating with MOMI on the preview screening of Bill Plympton’s Cheatin’ on Friday, December 12th, 2014.  Bill Plympton will be in attendance and there will be a reception following the screening.

Dir. Bill Plympton. 2014, 86 mins. DCP. In the eagerly awaited new feature film by New York indie animator Bill Plympton, a newlywed wife proves the depth of her love by becoming her cheating husband’s mistress. This is a special sneak preview in conjunction with the exhibition Plymptoons: Short Films and Drawings by Bill Plympton. Followed by a reception. The exhibition will be on view during the reception.

Both screenings  are presented as part of the See it Big! Animation series at MOMI from November 28 – December 28.   From Princess Mononoke to A Town Called Panic, this outstanding series focuses on features that come alive on a big screen.  If you haven’t been out to the MOMI yet, this is the perfect time!  Not only is animation a regular feature of their collection, but you can view The Animation Art of Chuck Jones through January 19th, 2015.  Oh and that theater is beautiful and the sound – AMAZING.
