Floyd Norman: An Animated Life

October 29, 2017 @ 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm

$15

“Dirs. Michael Fiore, Erik Sharkey. 2016, 94 mins. DCP. Hired by Walt Disney in 1956, Floyd Norman was the first African-American animator to work for the studio. He has been called the “Forrest Gump” of animation, because he worked on such timeless classics as The Sleeping Beauty101 Dalmatians, and The Jungle Book, as well as the Hanna Barbera cartoons of the 1970s and ‘80s, and Pixar classics like Toy Story 2 and Monsters, Inc. He has continued to work on his own, and at age 82, he plans to “die at the drawing board.” The Hollywood Reporter called this enchanting documentary portrait “an entertaining salute to an unsung figure whose considerable accomplishments well deserve recognition.” In this rare New York appearance, Floyd Norman will talk about his remarkable career in animation. The filmmakers Michael Fiore and Erik Sharkey will also participate in the discussion.”
