NFB Filmmakers Take Us Behind the Scenes
Filmmakers Torill Kove and Nicola Lemay of The National Film Board of Canada (NFB) visited NYC on October 1, 2014 to talk with animators. It was all part of a screening and masterclass tour that takes place in NYC and San Francisco every year. The evening was a co-sponsorship between the NFB, The School of Visual Arts (SVA) and ASIFA-East.
This year’s event was held at the state of the art SVA Theater on the west side.
The lovely Masako Kanayama and David Langkamp greeted folks as they entered.
SVA’s Reeves Lehman, Chair of Film and Animation, opened the evening and told us more about the exciting programming in store at SVA Theatre.
ASIFA-East’s Emmett Goodman gave an introduction to our evening’s program and filmmakers, and even entertained us with a bit of French!
Nicola Lemay took us behind the scenes of his film No Fish Where to Go, exhibiting mood boards as well as his storyboard process. Nicola also screened his film Private Eyes.
Next, Torill Kove took us on her exploratory journey of inspirational art and photos that influenced her film Me and My Moulton.

Afterwards, there was an audience Q&A with our artists and moderator, Linda Beck, ASIFA-East’s Co-President. Special thanks to SVA and the NFB for their support of this program.
