The ASIFA-East Story

An article about ASIFA-East, written by the late Howard Beckerman, presenting our local chapter’s history through the recollections of an animator, teacher, and long time ASIFA member.

“The jewel of the New York ASIFA-East chapter is its animation festival. Since many animation festivals are held in alternate years, this might be the longest-running animation festival in the world. It appeals to professionals and novices alike – no preselection committee to eliminate films – and is casual enough for students and veteran animators to mingle, discuss and toast the subject they love best – animation.”

The History of the aNYmator

The aNYmator far predates its incarnation as a WordPress blog and a “print it yourself” zine. This storied publication used to be ASIFA-East’s newsletter, sharing articles and news from around the industry. Check out the archive of our old issues, compiled by our resident historian, Hugo.
