Event Information

DESCRIPTION

The New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) is pleased to offer an opportunity for artists in all disciplines to participate in the third session of NYFA’s Online Learning: “The Profitable Artist” series. The “Copyright 101” will be presented by Elissa Hecker, Contributor of the legal chapters of “The Profitable Artist”. The workshop will take place online on Tuesday, November 20, 6:30pm-8pm EST.

As a creator, it is important to be able to make a living from the hard work you devote to your original works of authorship. You should have the right to control what others can and cannot do with your works, with a few exceptions. Often, however, the legal and business aspects of what to do with art before, during, and after it is created will depend on Copyright law. A creator’s copyrights are part of a bundle from which an artist can, among other things, license, sell, transfer, and/or assign, any number of rights to another.

This Copyright 101 workshop will provide an introduction to the basics of U.S. Copyright law. It will also focus on many types of licensing and the fair use defense.

If you create, use, appropriate, produce, commission… then this workshop is for you.
