Pratt Institute, Department of Digital Arts: 2D Animation Job Postings for Spring 2017

The Department of Digital Arts in the School of Art and Design at Pratt Institute seeks qualified, artistically minded 2D animation instructors who address the creation and use of traditional and digital animation for artistic expression as well as commercial production.
The department, which has been educating digital artists for over 25 years, offers BFA and MFA degrees in 3D Animation and Motion Arts, 2D Animation, Interactive Arts and Digital Imaging. Located in a new, LEED “Gold” certified green building on Pratt’s historic 25-acre campus in the culturally diverse neighborhood of Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, the Department seeks to attract an active , culturally and academically diverse faculty and student body. Current Course Openings:

Professional Practices for 2D Animators :
This course helps students in the final semester of their BFA degree develop the concepts, strategies, resources and skills to manage their creative lives professionally. Focus will be placed both on industry and studio art practices. Through field trips, readings, and class presentations, students will acquire a greater awareness of artists working in their fields and of the resources New York City offers digital arts practitioners. Students will create an online Portfolio at the end of this course which highlights their best work produced during their undergraduate career.

Post Production for 2D Animators :
This course is designed for students with prior basic editing experience, this course will prepare

students for the production of the senior project. This class delves into advanced options of digital editing systems and applies them to the creative, technical, and theoretical concerns of editing animation. An emphasis on compositing techniques specific to contemporary practices for 2D Digital Animation workflow is key, as this course prepares students for the production of their BFA Capstone project. The ideal candidate is very familiar with compositing source assets created with vector based and raster based applications into Adobe After Effects for final output.

Department of Digital Arts Candidates should have a knowledge of frame by frame hand drawn techniques (pose to pose as well as straight ahead), 2D digital animation production, a history of motion picture animation, and experience producing short animated films.

An MFA , a record of professional activity, and evidence of professional production or art studio practice are required. Professional production experience and minimum of one year college teaching experience is preferred.
Courses meet weekly between 15 weeks during the Spring semester.
