SUMMARY:Window Horses
DESCRIPTION:“An entertaining\, educational\, and poignant tale about identity and imagination that is filled with stories and poetry.” – Alissa Simon\, Variety \n \n“This is not just a visual treat\, it’s a rewarding and unexpectedly engrossing piece of female-led storytelling.” – Wendy Ide\, Screen International \n \n \n\n“We are pleased to announce the animated feature WINDOW HORSES  is being released in NY on November 10.   \n \n\nThe film is about Chinese/Iranian girl\, Rose Ming (voice by Sandra Oh) who is disconnected from her Iranian side of her family but becomes reconnected when travels there to perform at a poetry festival in Shiraz\, Iran.\n \nWINDOW HORSES is voiced by Golden Globe winner Sandra Oh (Grey’s Anatomy\, SIDEWAYS)\, Oscar nominated actress Shohreh Aghdashloo (HOUSE OF SAND AND FOG\, 24) and Oscar and Golden Globe nominated actress Ellen Page (JUNO\, INCEPTION) and is directed by award-winning filmmaker Ann Marie Fleming (THE FRENCH GUY) and\n\n\n \nWINDOW HORSES has received much praise for it’s powerful message of love—love of family\, poetry\, history and culture.\n\n\n \nRosie Ming\, a young Canadian poet\, is invited to perform at a poetry festival in Shiraz\, Iran\, but she’d rather go to Paris. She lives at home with her over-protective Chinese grandparents and has never been anywhere by herself. Once in Iran\, she finds herself in the company of poets and Persians who tell her stories that force her to confront her past: the Iranian father she assumed abandoned her and the nature of poetry itself. The film is about building bridges between cultural and generational divides. It’s about being curious. Staying open. And finding your own voice through the magic of poetry. \nThe film’s voice actors include Sandra Oh (Rosie)\, Ellen Page (Kelly\, Rosie’s best friend)\, Don McKellar (a young poet named Dietmar)\, Shohreh Aghdashloo (Mehrnaz\, a professor at the University of Tehran) and Nancy Kwan (Gloria\, Rosie’s overprotective grandmother). More than a dozen animators\, including Kevin Langdale\, Janet Perlman\, Bahram Javaheri and Jody Kramer\, worked on the film with Fleming. \n  \n\n \nOFFICIAL SELECTION\nTORONTO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL 2016\n \nBEST BRITISH COLUMBIA FILM and BEST CANADIAN FILM\nVANCOUVER INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL 2016\n \nJURY PRIZE-FEATURE FILM\nBUCHEON INTERNATIONAL ANIMATION FESTIVAL 2016\n \nAUDIENCE AWARD\nANIMASYROS-INTERNATIONAL ANIMATION FESTIVAL AND FORUM 2016\n \nCENTENNIAL BEST CANADIAN FILM AWARD\nREEL ASIAN 2016\n“

SUMMARY:Loving Vincent @ Sunshine Cinema
DESCRIPTION:*This event is not hosted by ASIFA East* \n  \nLoving Vincent\, the world’s first fully oil painted feature film\, brings the artwork of Vincent van Gogh to vibrant life in an exploration of the complicated life and controversial death of one of history’s most celebrated artists. More than six years in the making with the help of 125 specially trained painters\, Loving Vincent is a uniquely animated film composed of 65\,000 painted frames. Drawn from meticulous research and inspired by van Gogh’s masterpieces\, subjects\, and 800 personal letters\, the film captures the world of van Gogh in a cinematic experience like no other. The story begins a year after van Gogh’s death\, when Armand Roulin (voice of Douglas Booth)\, the postmaster’s son\, is tasked with delivering Vincent’s last letter\, and ends up interviewing all those who knew him in his troubled last days\, trying to understand Vincent’s character and what happened. With the voice talent of Saoirse Ronan\, Chris O’Dowd\, Aidan Turner\, Eleanor Tomlinson\, Jerome Flynn and Robert Gulaczyk. \nLandmark Presents an Exclusive Filmmaker Letter from co-writer/co-director Hugh Welchman
