SUMMARY:Bring Your Own Animation (BYOA) : October 2017
DESCRIPTION:“Join us for our October edition of BYOA! \nHere’s your chance to share what you’ve been working on with the rest of the NYC-area digital media community – and to check out what others have been doing. Come and meet other animators\, exchange tips and ideas\, maybe even find a future collaborator. We’ll be hooking up a Mac laptop to the flat-screen so bring your work on a USB drive and we’ll play it. (We will not swap out the computer to play from another computer so make sure you can transfer it to our machine.) \nWe’ll be meeting in the room all the way at the back of the venue. Beverages and food will be available for purchase. If you do not have ID to prove you are 21 or older\, you will not be allowed to purchase alcohol. College students between the ages of 18 and 20 are welcome to join us but anyone under the age of 21 that is found to be drinking will be asked to leave.” \n  \n*Not an official ASIFA East event

SUMMARY:Floyd Norman: An Animated Life
DESCRIPTION:“Dirs. Michael Fiore\, Erik Sharkey. 2016\, 94 mins. DCP. Hired by Walt Disney in 1956\, Floyd Norman was the first African-American animator to work for the studio. He has been called the “Forrest Gump” of animation\, because he worked on such timeless classics as The Sleeping Beauty\, 101 Dalmatians\, and The Jungle Book\, as well as the Hanna Barbera cartoons of the 1970s and ‘80s\, and Pixar classics like Toy Story 2 and Monsters\, Inc. He has continued to work on his own\, and at age 82\, he plans to “die at the drawing board.” The Hollywood Reporter called this enchanting documentary portrait “an entertaining salute to an unsung figure whose considerable accomplishments well deserve recognition.” In this rare New York appearance\, Floyd Norman will talk about his remarkable career in animation. The filmmakers Michael Fiore and Erik Sharkey will also participate in the discussion.” \nSCREENING & LIVE EVENT\nFloyd Norman: An Animated Life\nASIFA EAST Members: be on the lookout for a discount code coming to an email inbox near you! \n \nSunday\, October 29\, 1:30 p.m. \nMuseum of the Moving Image – Redstone Theater \nADD TO MY CALENDAR BUY TICKETS\n\n\nWith Floyd Norman\, Michael Fiore\, and Erik Sharkey in person
