Lawyer Zak Shusterman\, who contributed to the legal chapters of The Profitable Artist (Allworth Press\, 2018)\, will present on the topic. \nWorkshop Description:\nIf you’re earning even part of your living as an artist\, you should consider whether forming a separate business entity is the right decision for you. This workshop will review the questions you need to ask yourself at the beginning of this decision-making process. Then\, we’ll move on to discussing the most common business structures for artists\, from remaining a sole proprietor to limited liability companies\, the standard corporation types\, and the new benefit corporation option. The workshop will take place online on Tuesday\, January 15\, 2019\, 6:30 PM-8:00 PM EST.  \nWorkshop Description\nThis workshop seeks to empower artists by guiding them through the general meaning of terms that they will likely see in contracts throughout their practice. Topics include copyright and other ownership rights\, “reasonable efforts” clauses\, risk of loss\, indemnification\, termination\, and morality clauses. Wierzbicki is a lawyer in the publishing industry who has conducted workshops on copyright\, contracts\, and negotiation to artists and art students on both coasts. He has presented at several NYSCA/NYFA Artist As Entrepreneur Programs in New York State and at NYFA’s Immigrant Artist Mentoring Program: Oakland.
