This Thursday, Jill Gillbert of One Plus Hub, an animation networking group, will host a networking event with Blue Sky Studios. These events are held a couple times per year on the east coast and are a wonderful opportunity to network and get to know others in the animation community. Just a quick post to note that the One Plus Hub networking party at Titmouse Studio was pretty darn awesome! Much of New York’s Finest in Animation turned out to mix and mingle at this twice yearly networking party thrown by Jill Gilbert of One Plus Productions. I had a great time catching up with old friends and making a few new ones. It was also a lot of fun to get a chance to view NY’s newest animation studio, Titmouse, run by Chris and Shannon Prynoski. Awesome digs for an equally awesome East Coast crew, no doubt. We were even treated to a screening of their latest projects they’ve got going. Oh, and a keg. Reporting done by Katie Cropper. This past Thursday I had the pleasure of attending a sequel to a similar event held this past fall. I have to say the second was better than the first! Held at West 3rd Common the turn out was good for the reasonably sized front section of the bar. As we came in I was greeted by the wonderful Jill Gilbert (http://www.oneplushub.com) and Lisa Goldman (http://www.womeninanimation.com). At the beginning of the night I was mostly meeting writers and producers, which was refreshing since I personally spend a lot of time with visual artists and animation artists but towards the end of the event the students were going strong. A good number had just finished or were in the final stages of making their thesis films. The conversations were robust and delightful and it was great to meet people that were excited to find the next new direction for their work. All in all a success and I plan to make it out to the next one!
ASIFA-East, Women in Animation and Women in Children’s Media present – ONE HUB PLUS – Animation in New York We’re back in NYC! The One Plus Hub is an animation networking group which was launched in the fall of 2005 by Jill Gilbert of One Plus Productions. The One Plus Hub is comprised of over 900 members from the animation and related media communities at large. On a quarterly basis, animation producers, directors, writers, executives, agents, composers and managers in all media (films, television series, web, and mobile entertainment) come together to network and discuss the issues that surround the industry today and the future of animation from a business, creative and overall global perspective. Article by Katie Cropper. This past Thursday, I had the pleasure of going to Asifa’s most hybrid and fem-powered event in recent history. With the combined powers of One Plus Hub, Women In Animation, ASIFA East, and Women in Children’s Media, a lush collection of New York talent convened at the Beauty Bar here in downtown New York. The music was kept at just the right volume and the manicurist was in a whole other room so that it was an optimal network environment. It was also exciting to hear of the wide variety of projects people were working on or building up to. Though a good number seemed to be between jobs, I think the best thing one can do with the new found free time is to go to these kinds of events and work on personal projects. I went to this event knowing somewhat little of the women’s organizations ASIFA teamed up with. Who knew there was such an organized female presence in animation here in New York? Jill Gilbert of One Plus Hub deserves a good bit of praise for bringing these 3 groups together for a night among friends, comrades, and possible co-workers. The...
